CH ninth, JV teams win district tourneys

The Chapel Hill Lady Red Devils won the 19-2A Junior Varsity Tournament last Saturday at Prairiland. The team did not lose a game during pool or bracket play. In pool play the Lady Red Devils defeated Rivercrest (15-3 and 15-12) and DeKalb (15-3 and 15-9) to win pool B and advance to the semi-finals.
In their semi-final game, they defeated Rivercrest again by the scores of 25-18 and 25-14. Leading the way was Hannah Sharp with 10 service points and four aces and one kill. Right behind was Raegan McCullough with nine points that included seven aces and one kill. Katie Flinn had seven points with five aces and three kills. Claire Hand added five points and one kill. Desondra Smith chipped in with one point, an ace. Sarah Eddy also had one point. Jesse Edwards added one kill.
The Lady Devils claimed the championship by defeating host Prairiland, whom they had lost to the previous Tuesday. After falling behind 1-0, Chapel Hill came back to take a 6-1 lead and never looked back in the 25-14 win. The second started the same, with a 6-1 Chapel Hill lead. Prairiland fought back to be as close as 14-13 before Edwards came to the line and extended the lead to 19-13.
The Lady Red Devils ended up winning game two 25-18 to take home the trophy. Hand led the team with seven points with one ace, two assists and one kill. Sharp finished with six points and two aces, one kill and one dig. Edwards finished with six points with four aces. Flinn added four points with two aces, four kills, four digs and one assists. McCullough finished with three points, three kills and one dig. Eddy had three points with one ace, one kill and one dig. Smith rounded out the scoring with one point and two digs.
Chapel Hill finished with a 12-7 record n and a 4-1 mark to claim a co-district title -- following a two-game win over DeKalb last Tuesday. Raegan McCullough had 12 service points, one ace and one kill; Claire Hand had eight service points, four aces and two kills; Destinie Jones had four service points, one ace and one kill; Sarah Eddy finished with three service points, three aces and two kills; Hannah Sharp pitched in two service points and two kills; and Jessie Edwards slammed four kills.
At the ninth-grade district tournament last week, the Lady Red Devils finished 3-0.
They beat DeKalb, 25-20 and 25-10. Emily Bassinger had one dig, six service points and three aces; Chelsee Ehrlish added six service points and three aces; Ashley Peterson had one dig, two blocks, 11 service points and five aces; Shelbi Rankin contributed three service points; Lindsay Silva had one dig, six service points and two aces; and Kelsey Ward finished with two digs, two kills, six service points and two aces.
The Lady Red Devils next took on Prairiland, coming away with scores of 22-25; 25-22; and 25-23. Bassinger finished with one kill; nine service points and three aces; Ehrlish had five digs and five service points; Peterson had eight digs, four kills, 13 service points and three aces; Rankin had five digs and four service points; Silva turned in three digs, three service points and an ace; and Ward had four digs, three kills, eight service points and an ace.
Chapel Hill closed out the tournament by beating Chisum in two, 25-21 and 25-13.
