Lady Tigers blast All Saints



The Mount Pleasant Lady Tigers got monster games from Callie Thomas and Destiny Smith in a 57-29 win over All Saints Tuesday night. With the win, the Lady Tigers stayed undefeated (5-0) on the season.

Thomas led the Lady Tigers with 17 points to go along with three rebounds, three assists and three steals. Smith recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds to go along with four steals.

Other scorers for the Lady Tigers were Gina Adams (nine points, three rebounds, two steals); Aleah Robinson (seven points, three steals); Deanna Newton (four points, five steals, two rebounds); Angie Perez (two points, four assists, three steals); Katara Wilson (two points, two assists, four rebounds); and Tangie Frazier (two points, two rebounds).

The Lady Tigers return to action at the Spring Hill Tournament Thursday. They open with Carthage at noon.

Chapel Hill boys

edge Saltillo, 39-38

John Branson’s three-pointer with one second left on the clock helped lift the Chapel Hill Red Devils to a victory Tuesday night.

Branson’s bucket helped the Red Devils rally from a fourth-quarter deficit. Chapel Hill trailed after every quarter except the last. Branson finished with six points.

He was joined in the scoring column by Arturo Torres, who had 12 points; Larry Mike, who finished with 11; Matthew Leftwich, who netted five; and Rance Craig, who had four.

Chapel Hill returns to action against Harleton at the Hughes Springs Tournament Thursday at 1:30 p.m.

Lady Devils top

Atlanta, 65-42

The Chapel Hill Lady Red Devils moved to 3-0 after their win over Atlanta last week, 65-42.

After leading only 16-10 after one quarter, they scored 19 points in the second to take a 35-16 lead over Atlanta at the half.

The Rabbits cut into the lead in the third, outscoring Chapel Hill by two. The Lady Devils responded in the fourth by again outscoring Atlanta by six to determine the final results.

Chapel Hill did a great job playing aggressive man defense and ran the court well to score easy buckets, according to head coach Linda Alston. All 10 players saw action and continue to improve defensively, she said, adding that offensively, the team is struggling from the line and putting in the easy shots.

The Lady Red Devils shot only 11 of 21 from the line and realize they must improve to win the close games, Alston said.

Shantell Davis led the team in scoring with 15, eight of those coming in the second quarter. Nena Millsap was close behind with 13 points (4 of 4 from the line). She was followed by Candice Collier (12), Alyssa Giddens (nine), Cassi Clower (eight), Katie Flinn (four), and Audrey Ward and Dayna Stanley (two each). Jill Dowdy and Katlyn Smith saw action and continue to improve at the varsity level.

The Lady Devils will play at the Prairiland tournament this week.

CH JV girls

beat Atlanta

The Chapel Hill junior varsity girls improved to 2-1 with a convincing win over Atlanta by a score of 40-21.

The Lady Red Devils used great ball movement to jump out to an early 13-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. In the first half, Chapel Hill played excellent defense, holding Atlanta to a total of seven points.

Once again, Hannah Sharp led all scorers with 11 points. Ashley Peterson had a strong game, pitching in eight points, Lea Schumacher played great inside, chipping in five points. Claire Hand and Anna Burton scored four points each. Brittany Cook and Julianna Dowdy each contributed three points. Reagan McCullough rounded out the scoring with two points.

Brooke Chapman and Leslie Ottemer did a great job on the offensive and defensive boards.

CH JV boys

beat Saltillo

The Chapel Hill junior varsity boys rebounded from a loss to Van Alstyne last weekend by beating Saltillo Tuesday, 44-13. They improved to 3-1 with the win.

After leading by five after the first quarter, the Red Devils opened things up and increased their lead to 22-6 by halftime. Joseph Linseisen and Eric Lunsford paced the Red Devils with nine points each. Landon Johnson added seven, Kevin Sutton had five, Oscar Perez and Geoffery Smith had four each, Rex Shults pitched in three, Morgan McCaslin had two and Kendall Cochran rounded out the scoring with one.

Against Van Alstyne, the Red Devils rallied to cut the lead to as little as two but could not pull out a win.

“We just got down in too much of a hole,” Chapel Hill JV coach Anthony Williams said.

Smith led the way with 14 points. Shults, Ethan Wood and Lunsford netted six each; Sutton and Linseisen had five each; Johnson had four; Cody Bishop added two; and Cochran had one.

CHJH girls win

big at DeKalb

The Chapel Hill Junior High girls claimed a pair of big victories against DeKalb Monday.

The seventh-grade girls won, 54-4, thanks to a shooting night that included a 45 percent performance from the field.

Three players scored in double digits n Mackenzie Bishop had 14, Jacey Moody had 12 and Lindsey DeLoach scored 10. Kensey Brown added eight; Kennedy Redfearn and Nikki Edwards scored four each; Keelie Starek had two points, several steals and a number of great passes on fast breaks; and Hope Waldon played aggressively on defense.

The eighth-grade girls won 43-13. Kelli Bradley had a great offensive game, scoring 23 points and going 7 of 7 from the free throw line. Eryn Braddock also stepped up on offense and scored 12 points.

Linzey Larsen added four points, including a 2 of 2 performance from the free throw line, and Laura Crooks and Kelsey Lee each had two points.

Harts Bluff splits

four with Saltillo

Harts Bluff’s “B” teams swept Saltillo in action Monday, but Saltillo returned the favor by taking wins over the Harts Bluff “A” teams.

The Harts Bluff girls “B” team beat Saltillo, 21-6. A trio of Harts Bluff players n Melissa Morelos, Shelbi Mars and Bralen Thompson n scored four points each. Three more n Rosario Martinez, Brianna Gibson and Jessica Daniel n had two each. Alexis DeLaRiva rounded out the scoring with one point.

The Harts Bluff boys “B” team scored a 36-16 win over Saltillo. Jose Bocanegra led all scorers with 16 points. He was joined by Tyler Dickerson, who had nine, J.C. Thompson, who netted four, and Beny Sanchez and Edwin Chavez, who had two points each.

In boys “A” team action, Saltillo beat Harts Bluff, 36-28. Leonel Saldana led Harts Bluff with 11 points. Jared Tigert and Alberto Gonzalez had eight points each, followed by five from Zakk Whittington and four each from Isaac Mota and Jerry Bowles.

Saltillo’s girls “A” team downed Harts Bluff, 29-17. Stephanie DelCarmen had eight points for Harts Bluff. She was joined in scoring by Autumn Thomas, who had six, and Callie McGee, who finished with three.
