Mount Pleasant business owner Don Boggs hopes his leadership and management experience will earn the support of voters in November, when Titus County residents select a new Precinct 1 commissioner. Boggs, who owns Mount Pleasant Meat Company, Mount Pleasant Meat Processing Company and Country Cottage Florist with his wife Annaleisa, officially filed for the office as a Democrat.
“I was asked by several people, who I respect greatly, if I would run,” said Boggs. “At first, I wasn’t interested. I have a lot that I already do, but the more I thought about it, I had a yearning to do public service.”
His management skills and ability to supervise personnel are strengths he feels prepare him for the job. In addition to his businesses now, he served as general manager of ranch for six years.
Boggs is also familiar with setting budgets, and adhering to them as he served eight years as a trustee for the Mount Pleasant Independent School District board trustee for eight years. He was named president of the board in 1996.
The candidate, who holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University, said his role as Precinct 1 commissioner will be one of managing the precinct’s workers.
“The commissioner manages the work of his precinct, and that’s what I intend to do,” said Boggs. “I’m going to be managing the business of Precinct 1.”
As for his multiple businesses, Boggs said if elected, changes will be made in managerial responsibility.
“If elected, I would consider the residents, and their needs, of Precinct 1 priority,” he said. “I want to be specifically responsible to the residents of Precinct 1, and to the county as a whole.”
Boggs is a candidate in one of the few two-party contested races that will actually be decided in November, as opposed to the March primary election.
