Brooks



Hubert "Mutt" Brooks, 82, of Mount Pleasant died Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, in Mount Pleasant.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at Sheppard Street Church of Christ with Bro. Skippy Norman, minister, officiating. Interment will follow at Piney Cemetery under the direction of Tumey Mortuary.

Mr. Brooks was born on Jan. 15, 1926, in Mount Pleasant, the son of John and Ora (Norman) Brooks. In his early years he was a member of Piney Baptist Church and is currently a member of the Sheppard Street Church of Christ. He is a retired truck driver for the former Billy Garrett Feed Store. He is a veteran of the United States Army having served in World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret R. (Brown) Brooks of Mount Pleasant; two sons and daughters-in-law, Clarence and Marilyn Brooks, Kenneth and Angela Brooks, all of Mount Pleasant; a daughter, Shirley Roberts of Texarkana; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, the Rev. John M. and Angela Brooks of Mount Pleasant; and a sister, Onettia Wheeler of Mount Pleasant; and special cousin, Clevan Nickleberry of Mount Pleasant and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Houston Brooks and a sister, Nellia D. Brown.

No formal visitation with the family is planned; however, Mr. Brooks will lie in state at the funeral home from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. Friday.
