Junior high basketball roundup



MP splits with TMS, Chapel Hill and Harts Bluff win

The Mount Pleasant junior high boys basketball teams started off their district schedule at home Thursday. The seventh grade B and A teams both lost while both eighth grade teams won over the visiting Tigers. MPJH will travel to take on Hallsville next week, on Dec. 4.

HUGHES SPRINGS-Both Chapel Hill junior high boys basketball teams improved to 2-0 Monday night on the road against Hughes Springs. The seventh grade Red Devils won 31-22 while the eighth graders took a 36-17 victory.

Baskets by Andrew Mercer, Nick Stansell, and Dylan Johnson pushed Chapel Hill to a slim 10-8 lead. The Colts turned on the defense in the second period holding the Red Devils to only two points as they tied the game 12-12. Chapel Hill's offense would get going again as Mercer added six of his game high 14 points in the third. Chapel Hill led 20-16 and scored 11 points in the fourth quarter to seal the game.

Stansell finished with five points including a three pointer and Hunter May and Ethan Rester each scored four points. Johnson and Johanthan Mendoza each had two points.

In the eighth grade game, the Red Devil defense held the Colts scoreless while taking a 6-0 lead. Hughes Springs stormed back with a nine point second quarter to cut the lead to four at halftime. Chapel Hill outscored the Colts 9-6 to maintain a seven point lead going into the fourth.

Like the seventh grade team, they finished off the game with their best quarter, scoring 14 points while holding the Colts to two. Alex Nunn led the scoring with 13 points and Zach Crane followed with eight. Lane Millsap added six and Tyler Levesque scored five. Chance Scroggins and Justin Robinson both scored two points each.

The CHJH boys teams will have a bye week for Thanksgiving and will return home for another district game on Dec. 1 against Ore City.

Harts Bluff wins three of four over Sulphur Bluff

SULPHUR BLUFF - The Harts Bluff returned to Sulphur Bluff Monday, following last weeks' tournament and won three out of four games. Sulphur Bluff won the girls B game 21-14.Shelby Roesler led the girls B team with five points. Cheyenne Fleet scored four and Sam Heath, Karina Mota, Priscila DeLaRiva, and Harley Holliday all added two points each.

The Lady Bulldogs edged Sulphur Bluff in the girls A game 28-24. Harts Bluff only led 10-6 at halftime but exploded for 12 points in the third quarter to pull away.

Stephanie DelCarmen led the Lady Bulldogs with 14 points.

The Harts Bluff B team win their game 36-15. Jordan Raney led the Bulldogs with 16 points while Trace Johnson added 15.

Baron Rogers led the HB A boys team with 21 points in their 40-34 win. Jared Tigert was also in double figures with 10 points.

Hart Bluff will host Miller Grove on Monday. Dec. 1.
