An Omaha resident, Howard Randall Harper, 57, was injured Monday morning when his pickup was hit head-on on Highway 271 just north of Talco.

Harper was taken by ambulance from the crash scene at the northern city limits of Talco to Titus Regional Medical Center (TRMC) in Mount Pleasant. His condition today is not known, but he is not listed as a patient at TRMC.

Harper was driving his 2002 Dodge Ram pickup north on Highway 271 when the southbound 1994 four-door Chevrolet Lumina driven by Carla Sue Fuentes, 42, of Terrell, crossed the center-stripe and struck Harper's pickup almost head-on.

Mrs. Fuentes was killed on impact.

Her husband, who is unidentified in the report filed by the investigating trooper, was not injured in the accident.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:44 a.m. by Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Kay McNutt.

According to the report filed by Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol trooper Gerald Wayne Holt, out of Red River County, the accident happened at approximately 8:51 a.m. on good road conditions and all those involved were wearing their seat belts.

The speed limit at the scene of the accident is 55 miles per hour, but the report does not specify the speed of the vehicles at the time of the wreck.
