We have an abundance of charitable and non-profit organizations in our community. I think this reflect the caring hearts of the people who live here. At times, however, they all seem to be knocking on your door at the same time asking for money.

Without taking away from any of the other efforts, I’d like to draw your attention to a joint effort by the Northeast Texas Community College baseball and softball teams and the Titus Regional Medical Foundation.

It’s called K’s For Kids.

You pledge as little as a nickel per strike out earned by Eagles pitchers this season. If you were to pledge a quarter, it might cost you a little more than $100.

I like the program, but I care for how the money is used, even more. Funds go to benefit the neonatal intensive care unit and pediatric unit at Titus Regional.

Helping new-born and sick babies stands in my mind as about as worthwhile an effort as we can make.

Let me urge you to join me in making a pledge. Just call Lynda Stringer at TRMF, 903-577-6366, to make your pledge or arrange your donation. You can pledge so much per strike out or just a flat amount for the season.

It’s your turn to step up to the plate.
